The updated Magic Keyboard features a bigger trackpad, an aluminum surface, and includes a row of function keys.
Apple has launched a new OLED iPad Pro and an updated Magic Keyboard. The keyboard now features an aluminum palm rest and a bigger trackpad with haptic feedback. It also includes a function row for the first time.
The latest Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro (M4) is available in black and silver. It comes in two versions: one fits the 11-inch iPad Pro and the other fits the 13-inch model.
The prices are $299 and $349, respectively. You can preorder them today, and they will ship next week. However, these keyboards do not work with the new 11- and 13-inch iPad Air models also announced today or with older iPad Pro models. The original version of the Magic Keyboard is now called the Magic Keyboard for iPad Air (M2).
This is the first significant update to the iPad Pro’s Magic Keyboard since it was introduced in 2020. It retains the unique double-hinged, cantilevered design and a USB-C port for power only.
The keyboard now has an aluminum palm rest instead of plastic, and a bigger glass trackpad that offers haptic feedback. Additionally, it now includes a function row, a feature that was added to the standard iPad’s Magic Keyboard Folio in 2022.
Since its introduction, the Magic Keyboard has made the iPad more similar to a laptop. Improved finishes and a larger trackpad enhance this effect.
However, any remaining differences between the iPad and a laptop aren’t solely due to the keyboard.
What we think?
I think the new Magic Keyboard will make the iPad Pro even more like a laptop. With a bigger trackpad and aluminum details, it feels fancier.
The added function keys are useful. But, it’s pricey and won’t work with older iPads or the new iPad Airs. If you have a new iPad Pro, this keyboard could be great. However, remember it still won’t completely replace a laptop.
