The latest ULT Power Sound series features a button that offers two unique types of strong bass. Sony is updating its approach for its popular wireless headphones and speakers. Today, it is unveiling a number of new products under a new brand called ULT Power Sound.
This is a change from previous years when Sony often used model numbers instead of names for their devices. The new brand suggests that these products — three speakers and one pair of headphones — emphasize vibrant, bass-heavy sound.
Each device includes a ULT button that allows you to switch between various sound settings based on your preference for bass intensity. ULT1 provides “deeper, lower frequency bass,” whereas ULT2 offers “strong, punchy bass.”
There is indeed a noticeable difference in the overall EQ between these two settings. Essentially, ULT represents the evolution of Sony’s previous Extra Bass mode.
The main product is a large 64-pound party speaker named the ULT Tower 10, priced at $1,199. It features all the typical party speaker functions, such as music-synced lights, a microphone for karaoke, and omnidirectional sound.
It also includes the ULT1 and ULT2 sound modes for intense bass that can shake the room. This speaker has 34 different LED light zones, and Sony calls its sound “overwhelmingly powerful.”
Sony is introducing the ULT Field 7, its new top Bluetooth speaker that takes the place of the SRS-XG500. It costs $499 and is over 20 inches wide. Although it’s quite large, it has built-in handles that make it easier to carry.
The battery life is up to 30 hours, but this decreases to 25 hours when the lights and ULT modes are on. Additionally, it features a seven-band EQ for further audio customization. The ULT Field 7 is protected against dust and water with an IP67 rating and Sony claims it is rustproof as well.
The final speaker in the lineup is the portable ULT Field 1, priced at $129. It is available in several colors including black, gray, green, and orange. Despite its small size, it delivers strong bass.
This model features a single ULT sound mode and offers up to 12 hours of continuous play. It can also function as a speakerphone, a useful feature in Bluetooth speakers. Additionally, it comes with a built-in strap that easily attaches to your bag.
The ULT Wear is Sony’s new headphone model, replacing the Sony WH-XB910, and is priced at $199.99. These headphones inherit features from the higher-end 1000XM5, such as on-ear detection, improved noise cancellation, head-tracking spatial audio, and faster quick charging.
While the M5 still delivers Sony’s top active noise cancellation and sound quality, the drivers in the ULT Wear are specifically designed for a deep bass response.
I tested the ULT Wear briefly a few weeks ago, and found the ULT1 and ULT2 modes to be a bit overwhelming, but they will definitely appeal to those who love heavy bass.
What we think?
I think Sony’s new ULT Power Sound series will be popular. The headphones and speakers have strong bass that many people will like. The big party speaker is really heavy and has cool lights and sound that fills the room.
The smaller speakers are easy to carry and also sound good. People who like loud music and parties will probably love these new Sony products.
