Snapchat is introducing new updates. These include the ability to change messages that haven’t been read yet, AI-generated reminders, emoji reactions, and other enhancements.
Snap is rolling out several new features for Snapchat. These allow users to edit messages they’ve sent but haven’t been read, helping to fix mistakes like mixing up “your” and “you’re.” Additionally, Snapchat will now offer emoji reactions, map reactions, and a new AI-powered reminders feature.
The message editing feature has a time limit: you must make changes within five minutes after sending, and only if the recipient hasn’t opened it yet. Snap announced that this feature will initially be available to Snapchat Plus subscribers.
This approach is similar to what was done on Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue (now X Premium), which introduced a similar feature for paying users over a year ago.
Editing messages after they’ve been sent is becoming a popular feature on messaging apps. In the past year, Meta’s Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp all added this capability. Apple introduced it in iOS 16, and Google may soon adopt it as well.
Snapchat is introducing additional AI features, following the inclusion of the OpenAI-powered My AI chatbot last year. You can request My AI to track crucial deadlines, and it will create a countdown to help you remember.
Snap is also enabling the creation of personalized outfits for your Bitmoji using AI. Moreover, with AI Lenses, you can make a Polaroid-style ’90s version of yourself by just uploading a selfie.
If Bitmojis aren’t your preference, Snapchat now allows you to use regular emoji reactions for messages as well. Additionally, you can react to friends who share their location on Snap, whether you’re passing them during your commute or they’ve arrived at work — just make sure not to do this while driving. These new Snapchat features are currently available, though the editable messages for plus subscribers will be available soon.
What we think?
I think Snapchat’s new features will be very popular. Being able to edit messages will help a lot of people fix their typos and mistakes quickly. The AI reminders and Bitmoji outfits sound fun and useful.
I’m especially excited about the emoji reactions and the AI Lenses that make old-style photos. These updates will make Snapchat more fun and helpful for keeping in touch and sharing moments.
