Sony’s Santa Monica Studio is currently hiring for many positions. These openings suggest a new God of War game might be in the works. The job ads mention they are for an unnamed project.
The type of experience they want from applicants hints they’re continuing with a well-known game series.
Familiarity with God of War and God of War Ragnarok is a plus. Santa Monica Studio is busy with several projects and appears to be hiring for more than one.
GeekinOut pointed out that the job listing for the Senior Combat Designer (Hero) and Senior Technical Combat Designer state that “candidates who are fluent with the combat design choices, systems, mechanics, and enemies in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022) are preferred.”
The particular requirement hints that the studio might be developing a new God of War game among its projects.
While enthusiasts are eager for a brand new game, there were whispers by the end of 2023 about the first three God of War games being remade for the PS5.
The studio has not responded to these rumors, and the job postings don’t provide clear answers.
Besides those job ads, 75% of the 24 openings at Santa Monica Studio mention “an exciting new project” or a “new secret title.” Information gathered from past interviews and various sources hints at a possible sci-fi RPG, which might even include involvement from creative director Cory Barlog.
Last month, Barlog mentioned that “some early parts” of his next video game were taking shape, suggesting the project was just starting.
With the studio now hiring, it seems like development is about to speed up. We’re hoping to learn more about these new projects in the near future.

I think the new God of War game will be epic. Santa Monica Studio is hiring people who know the old games well, so it’ll feel familiar but also fresh.
There might be more awesome fights and a cool story. I’m excited to see what’s next, especially with rumors about a sci-fi RPG too. Can’t wait to find out more and play it!
