Early hints about the Z Fold 6’s camera suggest it will have a similar setup to the Z Fold 5. It will have a 50-megapixel main lens, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto lens.
Recent details confirm this configuration. This setup is the same as the Galaxy S24 and S24+, which launched in January.
DXOMark rated the Galaxy S24 camera as above average for photos, but its video quality needs improvement: “Overall, our testers observed some nice improvements over the previous S-series generation in photo mode, but video mode showed some room for improvement.”
Using the S24 camera system in the Z Fold 6 will keep the Galaxy S24 Ultra as Samsung’s best option for top-quality photos.
However, the Z Fold 6 still performs well. Samsung’s improved AI for taking and editing pictures should enhance the images enough that most users won’t notice a difference.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 from Samsung has had many leaks in recent months. With the expected launch in July approaching, one of the last unanswered questions seems to have been resolved, and there’s a surprising twist.
Details about the foldable’s main specifications have been revealed on Geekbench. Any device that runs the benchmark process on the site gets published automatically. It’s common for pre-release devices to appear on Geekbench.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s listing shows its model number as SM-F956U and notes that it is a carrier-locked version. The listing confirms it uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, with 12 GB of RAM.
The single-core benchmark is 1,964, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s 1,943. The real advantage is in the multi-core score of 6,619, compared to 5,123 on the older model. This means better performance for CPU-intensive tasks.
While this is just one data point, many Samsung fans will be pleased with the use of the Snapdragon chipset. It’s often seen as better than Samsung’s Exynos chipset. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ used a mix of Snapdragon and Exynos, depending on the region. The high-end Galaxy S24 Ultra came with the Snapdragon chipset worldwide.
Given the Z Fold range’s premium status, knowing it will have a Snapdragon model will reassure many.
The twist is the 12 GB of memory. This matches all three versions of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While 12 GB is enough for now, the demand for memory will grow, especially with generative AI. This could become an issue in the future as software needs more hardware power. Although it keeps costs down, it may cause problems later.
Samsung is expected to host a Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris before the Summer Olympic Games. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Ring fitness tracker will be launched at this event.
What we think?
I think the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be amazing. It will have a great camera like the Galaxy S24. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will make it very fast.
The 12 GB of RAM is good, but it might not be enough in the future. The July launch will be exciting, especially with other new devices. I can’t wait to see it all at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris.
