Three years ago, Apple launched AirTag, its item tracker that works with Apple devices. There has been little news about a new version, except that it is expected by 2025. Now, we have more details about what to expect from the second-generation AirTag.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a new AirTag is expected around mid-next year. The first AirTag was introduced in April 2021, so the second generation might be released at a similar time next year.
The journalist also mentioned that Apple has been conducting manufacturing tests with its partners in Asia. This is to prepare for shipping the product, codenamed B589, in 2025.
So, what can we expect from the second-generation AirTag, or AirTag 2? According to Gurman, it will have a better chip with improved location tracking. It might use the same second-generation Ultra-Wideband chip as the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9, and Ultra 2 models.
The U1 chip works over short distances of about 10 meters. However, the second-generation UWB chip from Apple works over longer distances, up to 60 meters. This has allowed Apple to add a new feature called Precision Finding, which helps users locate their friends.
Apple might release AirTags in different shapes, though this hasn’t been rumored yet. New AirTag accessories are also possible.
What we think?
I think the new AirTag will be very exciting. It will have a better chip for better tracking. This new chip works over longer distances.
I think this will help us find our items more easily. Maybe Apple will also release new shapes for the AirTag. This will make them more fun to use. I can’t wait to see what else Apple will bring with the new AirTag.
