Nintendo plans to reveal its new console for the Switch series by the end of this fiscal year, which is March 31, 2025.
Shuntaro Furukawa, the President of Nintendo, announced the upcoming console while releasing Nintendo’s financial results for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2024.
The announcement was made on X / Twitter. Furukawa also mentioned a Nintendo Direct scheduled for June, but noted it will not discuss the new Switch console. Instead, the presentation will concentrate on games for the Switch that are set to release in the second half of 2024.
The phrasing indicates that fans might not see Nintendo’s upcoming console, often referred to as Switch 2, until July or later. Here is the complete statement from Furukawa:
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.
We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

Recent rumors about the capabilities of the Switch 2 are not the first to circulate regarding Nintendo’s upcoming console. Other rumored leaks indicate that the device will include magnetic Joy-Cons and possibly allow the use of previous controllers. Additionally, if these latest rumors hold true, the Switch 2 will support both physical and digital games.
What we think?
I think Nintendo’s announcement of the new Switch console will excite a lot of gamers. We probably won’t see it until after June, and it might not come out until early 2025.
The new features like magnetic Joy-Cons sound cool, and being able to use old controllers is a big plus. I’m also happy it will support both physical and digital games. Can’t wait to see it!
