The most recent update for SteamVR has been released, featuring enhancements to Steam Link for Quest.
First launched in November 2023, Steam Link is an app created by Valve for the Meta Quest Store. It lets users connect their Quest headset wirelessly to SteamVR. This enables them to play PC VR or regular PC games without using Meta’s Air Link.
The 2.5 update brings several bug fixes and enhancements throughout SteamVR. Quest users should experience improved stability with Steam Link.
In the update notes, Valve mentions several enhancements to Steam Link:
- Better prediction for more stable lateral tracking.
- Resolved a start-up problem that prevented connections. Both client and server need updates.
- Addressed a recurring problem when the headset goes into standby and comes back.
- Fixed a freeze on the host when USB devices are connected or disconnected.
- Solved two instances where the client would crash.
- Corrected a problem with video encoder setup on some AMD integrated GPUs.

What we think?
I think the new SteamVR update will make playing games on Quest better. The update fixes a lot of bugs and improves how the headset tracks movements, which should make games smoother and more fun.
There might be fewer problems when starting games and fewer crashes. It’s also great that they’re helping with setup issues, especially for people with AMD GPUs. This update seems really helpful for making VR gaming more enjoyable.
