Microsoft aims for laptop users to become very familiar with its AI chatbot. It will keep track of all your computer activities and assist in predicting your next steps.
On Monday, Microsoft introduced a new version of Copilot, its AI assistant. The company is facing strong competition from other big tech firms. This AI can create documents, generate images, and act as a personal assistant both at work and home.
Before its annual Build developer conference in Seattle, Microsoft focused on adding AI features to a product used by millions: the Windows operating system for personal computers.
The new features will include Windows Recall, allowing the AI assistant to “access everything you have seen or done on your PC, like having a photographic memory.” Microsoft assures users that their privacy will be protected by offering the option to filter out what they don’t want tracked.
The conference comes after major AI announcements from Google and OpenAI, Microsoft’s partner. Google introduced an updated search engine that occasionally displays AI-generated summaries above website links. They also showcased a developing AI assistant named Astra, which can “see” and discuss things viewed through a smartphone camera.
Last week, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, introduced a new version of its chatbot. This AI voice assistant can chat about someone’s outfit and try to understand their emotions. The voice was so similar to Scarlett Johansson’s AI character in the movie “Her” that OpenAI removed it from their collection on Monday.
Despite Microsoft’s multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI, the startup released a new desktop version of ChatGPT for Apple’s Mac computers.
Apple’s annual developers conference is in June. In February, Apple CEO Tim Cook indicated at the shareholder meeting that the company is heavily investing in generative AI.
Some of Microsoft’s announcements on Monday seemed aimed at countering Apple’s upcoming plans. The new AI-enhanced Windows PCs will be available from June 18. They will be made by partners like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, and also on Microsoft’s Surface devices. However, they will only be available on premium models starting at $999.
What we think?
I am excited about the new AI chatbot on Microsoft PCs. It will remember everything I do and help me with my tasks. This sounds very useful for work and personal use. The privacy feature is a plus.
I think it will be a strong competitor to Apple’s AI plans. The new AI-enhanced PCs coming in June will be great, even though they are a bit pricey. Overall, I am looking forward to it.
