The Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 VR headsets are getting a new Travel Mode. This feature improves their use in moving vehicles, like airplanes.
Meta has announced on their blog and Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram that the Quest 2 and Quest 3 VR headsets now have a beta version of “Travel Mode.”

This new setting helps optimize the headset for use in moving vehicles. It’s specially designed for airplanes. Travel Mode ensures that the motion of the aircraft doesn’t disrupt the VR experience.
We specially tuned our algorithms to account for the motion of an airplane, so you’ll have a stable and consistent experience in Travel Mode—even when looking out the window. 👀 Travel Mode is optimized for use on planes to start, and we plan to add support for other modes of transportation like trains in the future.
Before, when using the Quest on a flight, the plane’s movement could make the headset think you had moved away from the user interface.
Owners of Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 can turn on Travel Mode by selecting it from the “Experimental features” menu in the Settings app. It’s then easily accessible from the Quick Settings.
Additionally, Meta has partnered with Lufthansa to provide Quest headsets as in-flight entertainment in Lufthansa’s Allegris Business Class Suite.
What we think?
I think the new Travel Mode for the Meta Quest VR headsets sounds exciting. It should make playing games or watching movies on planes much better. No more weird glitches from the plane moving.
I’m happy they are starting with airplanes, but adding trains later is a good idea too. It will be cool to see if it really works as promised next time I fly.
