Nintendo has announced that a successor to the Nintendo Switch will be launched in 2025. More information about the Switch 2 has been revealed through recent leaks.
Android Authority has put together a report from the leaks that includes information ranging from a possible release date to the amount of RAM in the console, and whether it will support games from the original Nintendo Switch.
The initial leak originates from a well-known Nintendo forum called Famiboards, where a user named LiC analyzed shipping and customs records involving Nintendo, NVIDIA, and other companies. This research indicates that the Switch 2 could have 12GB of RAM, consisting of two 6GB LPDDR5X modules. The RAM would provide a 7,500MT/s transfer rate and include 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Although it may not seem like a lot compared to Xbox and PlayStation consoles that offer 1TB or more, the 256GB of storage in the upcoming Switch 2 is significantly more than the 64GB available in the Nintendo Switch OLED model.
A well-known source, CentroLeaks, referenced a Brazilian streamer named tvPH for additional details about the Switch 2. They reported that the console is set to release in May 2025, with more details expected from Nintendo this autumn. They also mentioned that the Switch 2 would be compatible with both physical and digital games from the original Switch.
Based on leaked parts, here's a to scale mockup of the Switch 2 size, compared to OG Switch and SteamDeck.

If these leaks prove true, the Switch 2 appears to be an exciting update, though not an enormous advancement for Nintendo. The improvements in storage and RAM are promising, but the actual gaming performance will depend on the CPU and GPU details, which are still unknown.
A leaked specification sheet indicates that the Switch 2 will have an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor. This leak also mentions that the console will include 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which contradicts the specs from more recent leaks. This discrepancy suggests that at least one, if not both, of these rumors might be incorrect, so we should consider them cautiously.
What we think?
I think the new Nintendo Switch 2 sounds exciting with better features like more storage and a bigger screen. If it can play old Switch games, that’s a big plus. The mixed info about RAM and storage is confusing, though. I hope the final specs are good and the new controllers add something fun. Can’t wait to see it in 2025!
