Apple has just launched the RC versions of iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5, watchOS 10.5, and tvOS 17.5 for developers and beta testers after the Let Loose event today. These updates introduce new features and fix some bugs.
iOS 17.5 may not be as major an update as previous versions in the iOS 17 series, but it still brings several new features and improvements.
Apple has announced that the iOS 17.5 beta now supports Web Distribution, although no developers are currently using this feature to offer apps. Additionally, Apple News+ subscribers in the US and Canada will have access to a new word game called “Quartiles” in the Apple News app once they update to iOS 17.5.
According to 9to5Mac, iOS 17.5 appears to include a new feature focused on preventing unwanted tracking of items such as AirTags. This comes after Apple’s announcement last year about working with Google on a new standard aimed at stopping unwanted tracking.
Apple has introduced a new “Repair State” option in Find My. This option allows users to verify their ownership with their Apple ID and password when they are sending their iPhone for repair. This way, Apple technicians can confirm the ownership of the iPhone and start the repair without disabling Stolen Device Protection and Find My.
The RC build number for iOS 17.5 is 21F79.
The biggest update in watchOS 10.5 is the 2024 Pride watch face, unveiled by Apple on Monday. Called “Pride Radiance,” this watch face displays vibrant numbers in glowing colorful streaks. It is designed to complement the new Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop band, which will be available for order starting May 22.
What we think?
I think the new ads on Amazon Prime Video will annoy a lot of people. Having ads that try to sell you stuff while you’re trying to watch a movie is too much. If these ads really happen, many people might cancel their subscriptions like I did. It’s also a bit worrying how easy they make it to buy things without thinking much. I prefer watching without interruptions.
